The former military surgeon and Medtronic consultant accused of falsifying research about the benefits of a bone-growth product used on soldiers injured in Iraq is now under investigation for a possible court-martial, officials at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center said Wednesday.   The investigation will determine if there is sufficient evidence to call the surgeon, Dr. Timothy R. Kuklo, back to active duty to face court-martial charges.

FoxNews reports that:

Hall, a soldier out of Fort Stewart in Georgia, recorded a rap song last July called “Stop Loss” after he was notified that his military contract was being extended. Army soldiers who are “stop-lossed” must complete additional tours of duty.

In his song, Hall raps about walking up to soldiers and “surprising them all” with 30 rounds set to a “three-round burst.” Another lyric says: “Still against the war / I grab my M4/ Spray and watch all the bodies hit the floor/ I bet you’ll never stop-loss nobody no more.”

Santana is scheduled for a court martial on April 20 for a shooting incident in Rapid City that injured another airman.

Militarycorruption.com has some lengthy pieces about the USS COWPENS and its former CO.  Here is an interesting theme to go with the picture:

Holly Graf, the female "Captain Bligh," is highly disliked and even hated by many Navy women. They feel the foul-mouthed martinet, relieved of command of the USS Cowpens for "cruelty and maltreatment of her crew," has set back female advances in the Navy for many years.

MC also points out the consistent misunderstanding of the CO being reduced in rank, rather than the actual event which was being detached for cause.

A case the U.S. Supreme Court has taken up over a Christian group’s challenge to UC Hastings College of the Law’s nondiscrimination policy for student groups could end up influencing the political debate over a possible vacancy on the court this summer.

In many ways, the case puts 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Diane P. Wood, one of the leading contenders for the eventual opening, in the same position that then-2nd Circuit Judge Sonia Sotomayor was in last year over her role in a case before the court last term.

Military.com reports:

Last summer, more than a year after completing a seemingly successful tour as commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship Wasp, Capt. Michael Hawley was removed from his post as the head of a Norfolk-based training group. . . .

But a report from the Naval Inspector General’s office outlines six personal or professional violations, including pressuring deployed Wasp Sailors to buy suits and guns from visiting merchants and pilfering a set of salt-and-pepper shakers while attending a dinner hosted by the Canadian navy.

Here is a piece about guilty pleas in military death penalty cases from FDL.

The New York Times is reporting that the Obama Administration is considering changing the law to permit prisoners at Gitmo to plead guilty to death penalty cases without need for a trial. This is apparently a reaction to the stated desires of five Gitmo prisoners to become "martyrs."
